About this activity
We will be taking an ancient, forested path to the Amaravati Buddhist monastery which starts from Berkhamsted station, about 30 minutes by train from Euston. (You don’t have to be Buddhist to come!)
The pace will be leisurely, and the path is of moderate exertion, about 1.5—2 hours’ walk, with stops together along the way. Sukhin will lead us in a gentle Qiqong session early into the walk, and later there will be opportunities for discussion and/or inquiry together.
On weekends the monastery is open to the public to visit, meditate, browse their extensive library, or just spend time in the beautiful grounds.
It offers a free meal at lunch with the monks and nuns between 12.00 – 12.30 pm. There is a wonderful atmosphere as this follows a tradition where food is brought to the monastery by devotees, and the meal is open to everyone.
“I loved the soft, free approach that still offered a container, an opportunity for stories, and some twirling around and with people.
(I) Also loved the opportunity to approach the monastery with the context and history, and then step into this space for this lovely lunch. What a communing. I wouldn’t change this. It was super well organised and calibrated.”
